Safety
A deadly human poison by an unspecified route. An experimental poison by intravenous route. This is one of the atropine alkaloids and is very toxic, acting very much like atropine. It has the same effect on the central nervous system but twice the effect on the peripheral nerves. The symptoms of poisoning are dryness of the throat and mouth, marked difficulty in swallowing, and a sensation of burning and thirst. The vision becomes impaired through dilation and loss of accommodation, and the eyes present a rather prominent, brilliant, staring appearance. The voice is husky and the tongue is red. When heated to decomposition it emits highly toxic fumes of NOx.
