Safety

Poison by subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, intravenous, and intramuscular routes. Human systemic effects by intramuscular route: dermatitis, granulocytopenia, and thrombocytopenia. Used as an antirheumatic agent. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of SO_x and Na₂O.
