Moderately toxic by subcutaneous route. Questionable carcinogen with experimental neoplastigenic data. Experimental teratogenic effects. When heated to decomposition p-Chloro-p'-dimethylaminoazobenzene (CAS NO.2491-76-1) emits very toxic fumes of Cl⁻ and NO_x.
