Moderately toxic by ingestion and subcutaneous routes. Human teratogenic effects by intramuscular route: developmental abnormalities of the eye and ear. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of SO_x and NO_x. See also STREPTOMYCIN and SULFATES.
