Mildly toxic by ingestion. A skin and eye irritant. When p-Chlorobenzenesulfonic acid, sodium salt (CAS NO.5138-90-9) is heated to decomposition, it emits very toxic fumes of SOx, Na2O, and Cl−. See also SULFONATES.
