Safety

Poison by ingestion, intraperitoneal, and subcutaneous routes. Used as a sedative and hypnotic agent. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of NO_x and Br⁻. A controlled drug under 21 CFR 1308.11, which may be habit forming. See also BARBITURATES.
