An explosive. Reaction with 2,2-dinitro-2-fluoroethoxycarbonyl chloride forms the explosive ester 2,2-dinitro-2-fluoroethyl-2,4,6-trinitrophenyl carbonate. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of K2O. See also PICRATES.
