Safety

Moderately toxic by intracerebral and parenteral routes. Mildly toxic by other routes. Human systemic effects: acute tubular necrosis, change in heart rate, changes in kidney tubules, muscle contraction, muscle weakness. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of I⁻ and NO_x.
