Safety

Moderately toxic by intraperitoneal and intravenous routes. Human systemic effects by intravenous route: interstitial nephritis (kidney damage), proteinuria (protein in the urine), hematuria (blood in the urine), leukopenia (reduced number of leukocytes in the blood), rosinophilia, agranulocytosis (reduced levels of granulocytes) and liver changes. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of NO_x, SO_x, and Na₂O.
