A poison by ingestion, intraperitoneal, subcutaneous, intravenous, and intramuscular routes. An anti-adrenergic agent and antiarrhythmic cardiac depressant. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of SO_x, NH₃, NO_x, and Br⁻. See also SULFONATES.
